Following the terrorist attack on a military checkpoint on the outskirts of Abuja, a video has been widely circulated online to indicate the audacity of the terrorists who carried out the attack.

The two-minute video, which showed dozens of fighters firing sporadically without their targets being visible, was also posted by a major newspaper in the country, The Sun Nigeria, on its Facebook page.

The video, which is the most popular video on her page, has garnered over 2,000 views and been shared over 4,000 times. It was captioned ‘3 terrorists killed in a firefight with soldiers from the 102 Guards Battalion. On Friday, soldiers from the 102 Guards Battalion killed three members of the Boko Haram group, who attacked a mounted military checkpoint in front of Zuma barracks along the Abuja/Kaduna highway.

On July 29, terrorists suspected of being members of Boko Haram engaged military personnel stationed at a checkpoint at Zuma Rock along the Abuja-Kaduna highway with eyewitnesses saying one soldier was killed while others were injured.

The incident was the latest attack on military personnel in the Capital Territory following the escape from Kuje and the ambush of a Presidential Guard contingent in Bwari that claimed the lives of servicemen.

The events raised concerns among locals about the security of the Nigerian seat of power and further revealed the weakness of Nigerian intelligence agencies in preventing terrorist attacks in the country.

In an attempt to determine where the video was shot, a keyframe analysis on an online verification tool, Invid, to find out if the already existing on the Internet returned no results, indicating that the video is new but the scene in the video gave a clue to show that it was not filmed in Abuja.

The video shows that the attack took place on a deserted road with few trees planted in its lane while a stretch of sand can be seen dominating the terrain at this location, giving the impression that it was shot in a desert area. This is different from the Zuma Rock Axis which is populated while some areas have vegetation which may be related to the rainy season.

Similarly, the road in the video was one lane but the Abuja-Kaduna highway has two lanes. The timing of the video showed it was taken during the day, but eyewitnesses said the attack happened at night around 7:30 p.m.

Additionally, the Abuja-Kaduna highway is a busy road that served as an artery connecting travelers from the south of the country to the north and despite instances of security breaches, it witnesses a lot of traffic.

In the video, the terrorist had motorcycles which he then used to pursue his opponent when he gained superior firepower, but for Zuma’s attack, Daily Trust reported that the attackers were seen dismounting from a gulf car before firing on military personnel.

The video circulating as the attack of the terrorists against a military checkpoint in the axis of Zuma rock is not true because the background of the video does not match its description.
