President Muhammadu Buhari distanced himself on Thursday from the directive calling for the removal of Section 84(12) of the amended Elections Act 2022.

The President told the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that he had not ordered the Senate to strike out Section 84(12).

Buhari, while reacting to the lawsuit filed by the People’s Democratic Party against him and 12 others, said he only expressed reservations and concerns about the aspect of the electoral law.

The President’s view was revealed in a counter affidavit filed by Nigeria SAN lead counsel Oladipupo Okpeseyi and filed by Abimbola Akintola, a lawyer.

According to Malami, on February 25, 2022, President Buhari gave his proper, full and unconditional assent to the amended electoral law.

All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu has said the party will not change its mind about the £100million price tag for its 2023 presidential nomination forms.

He added that those who criticize the APC are sponsored by opposition parties which try to paint the ruling party in a bad light.

Senator Adamu added that anyone who does not have N100 million personally or from support funds has no business contesting the presidency in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the APC chairman made the submissions in an interview with the Hausa Voice of America (VOA) service on Wednesday where he reacted to the backlash and public outrage that followed the party’s price tag for his appointment in 2023 and expression of interest forms for various positions.

Defending the party’s position, Senator Adamu said anyone who is unhappy with the party’s position or unable to raise funds can look elsewhere to realize their ambition, but the APC is not reversing its decision on the labels of price.

He said the presidential race cannot be compared to the contest for a car garage/union president or the traditional leadership of a community, saying only serious people should approach the presidency.

The MP representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Farah Dagogo, was arrested by police officers in Rivers State.

Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike said on Wednesday that the gubernatorial aspirant was wanted for allegedly hiring cultists to disrupt the selection of aspirants for the People’s Democratic Party secretariat in the state.

An allegation that was denied by Dagogo, accusing the Governor of Rivers State of intimidation and blackmail.

Dagogo, in a statement released on Thursday, called on the police to arrest and investigate the camp commander with the governor, Efeturi Irikefe, for his actions at the PDP office.

The legislator had promised to honor the police investigation after the selection of the candidates for the post of governor.

However, Dagogo was arrested by police officers attached to Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, PDP South South Zone Office Headquarters, Port Harcourt on Thursday evening.

The Nigerian government has declared May 2 and 3 public holidays to mark the celebrations of Workers’ Day and Eld-al-Fitr.

The Defense Headquarters said on Thursday that Nigerian army troops have recorded a massive victory against terrorists in their operations over the past three weeks.

Among the major breakthroughs is the assassination of a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) Province Commander, Abubakar Dan-Buduma.

Naija News recalls that Dan-Buduma was among those appointed as commanders of the terrorist group in January 2022.

Dan-Buduma was appointed to oversee Bakkassi Buningil and Doron Buhari while Muhammed Ba’ana for Kirta; Mohammed Aliamir for Kwalaram; Bakura Gana for Jubularam; Malam Musa for Jubularam; and Mohamadu Mustapha for Marte.

However, speaking today in Abuja, the Director of Defense Media Operations, General Benard Onyeuko revealed that as many as 848 abducted Nigerians were rescued by troops in various operations across the country in the over the past three weeks.

He added that informants and logistical providers of the terrorists were also arrested in different theaters of operations between April 7 and April 28, 2022.

Peoples’ Democratic Party national chairman Iyorchia Ayu on Thursday informed the party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar, that he would not work for him as an aspirant.

He, however, said he had been friends with the former vice president for more than 30 years as they were key players in the emergence of chief MKO Abiola.

According to Ayu, it was he and Atiku who plotted the emergence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He added that the Obasanjo administration has done very well and put Nigeria on a healthy map economically, socially and politically.

Justice Minister and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami has joined the race for the governorship of Kebbi State in 2023.

The Minister declared his intention on Thursday and would seek the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, according to Naija News.

According to Malami, he joined the race in response to calls from his people to serve the state as governor.

Speaking in the Birnin-Kebbi presidential hall during an interactive session with APC stakeholders in the state, the minister said he would heed the people’s call to contest the governorship .

He said he had come under pressure from those who wanted him to run and so he took up the challenge in response to calls.

Cross River State Governor and presidential candidate Ben Ayade said Nigerians should appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for fighting the criminal elements in the country.

Ayade said the president has done a lot to limit Boko Haram activities in the north, adding that the Nigerian army has brought the insurgents under control.

In an interview on Channels TV on Thursday morning, Ayade said the security problems in the country could have been worse had it not been for the Buhari government’s efforts to address them.

Governor Ayade underscored that insecurity in the country is a global problem that aims to keep Nigeria unstable, saying it is far beyond the capabilities of President Buhari.

The governor claimed that there was an international conspiracy against Nigeria, adding that the county was extremely lucky to have Buhari as president.

Service chiefs alongside Inspector General of Police Usman Baba met on Thursday to discuss the effort to rescue victims kidnapped from the Abuja-Kaduna bound train that happened on March 28 .

Naija News reports that the meeting was held behind closed doors at the Force headquarters in Abuja.

It is understood that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss how the kidnapped passengers would be rescued and to stop the terrorists behind the train attack.

Agents of the Nigerian military intelligence service have arrested civilians providing information to members of the feared Islamic State terrorists in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the northeast.

Naija News understands that the civilians, prior to their arrest, worked with a soldier who committed suicide after military troops discovered he was an ISWAP collaborator.

The soldier arrested for collaborating with ISWAP terrorists committed suicide while being escorted to the barracks.

The soldier, with one of the Nigerian Army’s battalions in the North East, was discovered by intelligence agents.

The rogue agent was involved in recent attacks on brothels and breweries in Gashua and Geidam in Yobe State.
