RC Latimer was born July 11, 1931 to J. Kirk and Edna Pearl Latimer on the family farm south of Foss, OK. He died on August 30, 2021 at his home in Pharr, Texas, with his wife by his side.
RC attended elementary and secondary school in Foss, OK, and graduated in 1950 as a Salutatorian class. He enrolled at Sayre Junior College for the 1950-1951 semester. He transferred to Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK, where he completed two years. Upon leaving school, he enlisted in the United States Army in the summer of 1953 for a two-year service. After his release from the military in 1955, he returned to Southwestern State College, where in 1956 he obtained a bachelor’s degree in science and physical education. While teaching, he continued his education by attending summer school in Southwestern and obtained his Masters in Education in July 1959. Then, taking evening and Saturday classes at the University of Oklahoma, he graduated in administration in 1968.
RC married the love of his life, Rita Sykes of Weatherford, OK on December 22, 1956. From this union, two children were born: Toni Latimer of Pharr, TX, and Vickie Bointy of Seneca, MO.
Over the years, RC has taught in schools in Port, Arapaho, Wayne and Washington, OK. He has taught biology, chemistry, civics, general science, and driver training. He coached the Washington High School and Junior High women’s basketball teams. Later in his career, he coached the junior high boys’ basketball team. While in the Washington school system, he also served as a high school principal for many years, retiring in 1986 as an assistant superintendent. During his career in Washington, it is estimated that he taught, coached or mentored more than 1,500 students. Many of them stayed in touch with him on social media during his retirement where he continued to be active playing golf, gardening, biking and traveling in his gypsy van.
RC is predeceased by his parents, Kirk and Pearl Latimer; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Weona and Walter Dunn, Laural and JR McNatt; and by his son-in-law, Jack Bointy.
He is survived by his wife Rita, his son Toni Latimer, both of Pharr, TX, his daughter Vickie Bointy of Seneca, MO. He was the grandfather of six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: Michael, Amy, Amanda, Katie and Logan Latimer of Fort Meade, FL, Jeremy, Heather and Elenore Latimer of Round Rock, TX, Chris and Emily Latimer from Norfolk, VA, Clayton, Jessica, Cooper, Chloe, Ty and Ben Bointy from Mustang, OK, Jami, Eli and Lexi Bointy from Moore, OK, Katie, Tim, Robbie and Bonnie Dunagan from Collinsville, OK.
A funeral service will be held at Page Cemetery, south of Foss, OK, on ​​Monday, October 25, 2021 at 4 p.m. The bearers of honor are his six grandchildren.
