(NAPLES, Italy) – United States Navy Support Activity (NSA) Naples celebrates Women’s History Month (WHM) throughout March each year. The month is dedicated to the contributions of women, past and present, and celebrates their vital role with Women’s History Month (WHM).

Each year there is a new theme to frame the many impacts that women have had in shaping the world.

“This year’s theme, ‘Women Who Heal, Promote Hope’, is a tribute to the tireless work of caregivers and frontline workers throughout the pandemic,” said Captain James Stewart, Commanding Officer of NSA Naples.

“Historically, WHM is a time to honor the sacrifices and successes of women throughout our history. True to the vision of these great leaders, the women of our active duty workforce and our Department of Defense community continue to be strong examples of strength and professionalism,” said Stewart. “Every day, the women of our NSA Naples community fight to support our mission here in Europe. This month, we honor and recognize their hard work and sacrifice.

NSA Command Departments in Naples nominated women throughout the month to be featured on the command’s social media platforms for their hard work and dedication to supporting the Naples community.

The women of the installation have made sacrifices on the front lines in a variety of capacities: working at the commissary, the navy exchange, the navy lodge, the child and youth program facilities , And much more.

“In many cases we have left our families, but the priority is to serve this community because for them it is difficult to find a new [country]especially one who speaks a different language and in the pandemic,” said Commissary store employee Nunzia Gressa.

“We are here to serve them. Anything that can be done, we do,” Gressa said.
Some employees have dedicated long periods of their lives to serving the NSA Naples community.

“A large number of [the employees] have been working here and assisting our military personnel for decades… Some of them have been here for more than 30 years”, explains Hugo Zapata, manager of the commissary’s grocery store.

Although the pandemic is only a small part of what they have been through over the years, here, even in difficult times, the women who work in stewardship are proud of what they do to serve our community, added Zapata.
