The half term school holidays are almost upon us and families in Aldershot, Farnborough and Fleet will be looking for things to do together.

The break from Monday 21st to 25th February is an opportunity to break away from the daily routine and spend some quality time enjoying what the region has to offer.

Princes’ Gardens

Nothing beats a bit of fresh air and Princes Gardens in Aldershot is a great place to take the family and enjoy nature.

Built on land that was part of the town’s first military camp, it is recognized as the gateway between the military and civilian sides of Aldershot and is the perfect place for a family picnic.

A statue of an airborne soldier which was unveiled on July 6, 2019, in recognition of the special relationship between the Parachute Regiment and the Airborne Forces and the town of Aldershot between 1946 and 2000. It is mounted on a block of stone of the Falkland Islands.

Farnborough Air Science Trust Museum

Farnborough has a long history of aviation and the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust Museum is a great place to learn all about it.

The museum features aircraft, aircraft parts, nose sections and cockpits of historical and scientific interest that are on display.

Admission is free and the museum is open to the public on bank holiday Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

Fleet Pond Nature Reserve

23a Wellington Ave, Fleet, Hampshire, GU51 2RR

Fleet Pond is Hampshire’s largest freshwater lake and has 54.6 hectares (141 acres) of varied habitat.

The terrain includes moorland, woodland, reedbeds and steps, and is home to several species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wildflowers.

There are several benches around the site and a designated picnic area near the parking lot.

Aldershot Military Museum

Housed in the only remaining brick barrack blocks in Aldershot, the museum tells the story of daily life for soldiers and civilians since 1854.

There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, including taking on the challenge of a WWII-inspired assault course, trying out a remote-controlled tank track, and learning the basics of a driver training unit.

The Obstacle Course challenges toy soldiers to jump, leap, climb and swing through an action-packed course inspired by real obstacle courses used in training during WWII.

This 80 acre area of ​​woodland in Farnborough is the perfect place to relax.

Southwood Woodland is a natural environment for families to enjoy activities such as walking and biking away from the bustle of the city.

The woodlot includes large expanses of regenerating birch, as well as field boundaries of mature oak. Holly and hazel are other common species. Alder, grassland and heathland areas form important habitats for a number of animals.

St. Michael’s Abbey

The magnificent St. Michael’s Abbey in Farnborough is a monastic community that has been a place of Benedictine life since 1895.

Located on the Hampshire-Surrey border, it has a church and crypt which are open for visits by visitors provided they are booked in advance.
